Starting your laser hair removal journey?

Here’s what to expect with laser hair removal

For some time now you’ve been hearing just how game changing laser hair removal is. You’ve seen the ads, heard the testimonials and may have even watched a tiktok of Cardi B telling you all about it. The time has come and you've finally decided to make your appointment. At this point you may be asking questions like, “What is the process really like” and mostly importantly, “Will it hurt?” We’re here to answer your questions.

Laser hair removal is the most effective manner of hair removal, as it minimally invasive,  provides immediate results, prevents ingrown hair and can eliminate hair growth permanently. You’ve made the best decision for your skin, here’s what to expect.

How it works

Targeted light is emitted on the surface of the skin that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which breaks down the hair follicles within the skin. This damage subsequently inhibits future hair growth. It is important to book your appointments with technicians that specialize in melanated skin like those at PeachFuzz Hair Studio, as inexperience can lead to burns and scarring.

How to prepare for your laser appointment

Be sure to arrive at your appointment with clean skin. Do not use any products that enhance photosensitivity. Skin should be free of makeup, cream, oil, sunscreen, self tanners, or deodorant. The area must also be recently shaved. Avoid any other type of hair removal method.

How to avoid pain or discomfort

During your laser treatment the skin may feel like it’s being snapped with a rubber band. We call it the “spicy zap!” However, the sensation only lasts for a few seconds. Certain body parts may be more sensitive than others. To avoid any discomfort you may arrive at your appointment 30 mins earlier to apply a topical anesthetic before treatment.

After your laser appointment

Any redness or irritation will be soothed with a cold compress and FuzzClinic’s Aloe and Arnica Relief Gel. Laser hair removal should be done in a series of 4 – 6 treatments. Schedule your appointments between 4 to 6 weeks apart.

How to treat your skin in between appointments

After the first session you will notice that any hair growing in the lasered area comes in much finer and sparser. You will also notice patchiness. It is important to exfoliate and use an oil or shaving cream when shaving the area. If you are prone to razor bumps and ingrowns use a product like Fuzz Clinic’s Ingrown Hair Serum after every shave.
